Ebro Delta: a quick stop for flamingos
The last stop of our route: a short visit to the Ebro Delta to see the flamingos, and what else there is to do if you come for a whole day.

The last stop of our route was the Ebro Delta itself (Delta de l’Ebre). It was my second time here. This time we decided on just a quick visit: it was almost five in the evening, and both we and the kids were pretty tired.
We really came only for the flamingos, and even brought a monocular. The flamingos were there, but this time the flock was small.

In general, you can easily spend a whole day in the Ebro Delta, or even several. Things to do:
- Take a boat trip and cross the line where the river meets the sea. Boats to the river mouth leave from Riumar and Deltebre.
- Walk to the spot where the Ebro flows into the Mediterranean.
- Admire the rice fields.
- Eat seafood: paella with crab (arrΓ²s amb cranc blau) and oysters from the Ebro Delta, which are quite well known in Catalonia.
- Visit an eel farm.
- Relax on the beaches: there are lots of them.
- And, of course, watch the birds. Herons, many other species and huge flocks of flamingos live here.
They say there will be many more birds in a couple of months. And it’s true: in winter lots of migratory birds arrive in the delta, and there are twice as many flamingos as in summer.
For more about the delta, see our Ebro Delta guide.
π‘ Bring binoculars or a monocular: the flamingos often stay far from the road.
