A French pastry shop in Poblenou with an incredible Instagram: strawberry tartlet, éclairs, cruffins, and whether it's worth the trip.

Today I visited a French pastry shop in Poblenou that was new to me. My expectations were sky-high: their Instagram photos are simply incredible — I knew straight away I wouldn’t be able to choose and would want everything at once. It all looks beautiful and delicious, and on Google Maps the selection seemed huge too.

But once I was there, even though the choice wasn’t exactly small and the display cases weren’t empty, there somehow wasn’t much of anything. Maybe a lot had already sold out — especially in the first section, with the savoury bakes.

I chose a strawberry tartlet to eat there, and took away raspberry éclairs and, as far as I can tell, apricot cruffins.

💡 I really wanted a mille-feuille, but they only sell them on Sundays.

I ate the tartlet right there in the café. The base is shortcrust pastry with a thin layer of strawberry inside, and the most interesting part is the cream and whipped cream on top. Tasty, but not mind-blowing.

The tea was very ordinary. I’d have liked a porcelain cup: black tea tastes better from porcelain and goes better with a pastry.

The space is fairly small, but the tables are a decent size, and there are also three little standing counters.

I’d thought I would end up travelling to Poblenou regularly just for this place. But I won’t be making special trips: I live in another city and I’m not in Barcelona that often. If I’m nearby, I’ll drop in again. All in all — yes, a good place.
