One day in Miami Platja

A half-day getaway for two: coffee, a quiet beach that smells of pine trees, and lunch at Casa Bel.

One day in Miami Platja

By the end of July, as parents of two small children, we don’t really count on a holiday anymore. But we decided we could at least treat ourselves to half a day just the two of us — while the kids were at nursery and summer camps. So we gave ourselves a mini holiday in Miami Platja.

I have rather mixed feelings about this town. When we first came here in spring 2023, it struck me as a kind of ghost town: empty houses and apartments, streets that seemed deserted — and at the same time an incredibly beautiful coastline.

On later visits the town somehow, almost miraculously, began to come alive. It turned out there are plenty of interesting places here, good infrastructure, and a lot of very expensive houses and flats being built. And in general it seems to be a place that Spaniards themselves especially love. There’s none of the usual vibe (Salou or La Pineda), but it has an atmosphere all of its own.

In summer the population grows tenfold, maybe even more. It’s a real paradise for cyclists. And it’s simply a nice place to be.

A good day, of course, always starts with coffee. So after dropping the kids off at nursery and camps, we had a cup of coffee and a little snack on the way. I’ll tell you about that place separately some day.

Then we headed to the beach.

There are no facilities at all: no showers, no changing cabins, no toilet. But there’s an amazing scent of pine trees, the water is clear and beautiful, and there are very few people. That said, it’s not the most convenient beach for children: the water gets deep very suddenly.

We finished our holiday day with lunch at Casa Bel — a place I’d wanted to try as soon as I saw its beautiful interior. Its atmosphere doesn’t feel Spanish at all either.

Everything was delicious: a burger, an entrecôte and a salmon pinsa. And later I found out that I’m studying together with one of the cooks there, which made me like the place even more.

If you want to escape everyday life for a little while, Miami Platja is a great spot for a mini holiday like this.

I think I’ll be writing more about this town. We love coming here both as a couple and with the whole family. And it seems our relationship with it is gradually getting warmer and warmer.
